Summer is upon us and a record number of visitors are expected to descend onto the beaches of our seaside resorts such as Brighton and Hove this year. Nothing can beat a picnic or barbecue on the beach, right?
Brighton and Hove City Council have found a way to spoil the fun, however, by introducing a ban on disposable BBQs from the 1st of July 2022. According to the council website, getting caught with a lit single-use disposable BBQ on Brighton's beaches and parks will result in a £100 fine. The Daily Mail attributes the "killjoy" council's decision to ban disposable BBQs to help reduce CO2 emissions although other sources cite the environmental impact of single-use BBQs as the reason for the ban.
Not all is lost, however, for those seeking to enjoy a sizzling BBQ picnic with friends and family on Brighton's beaches on a balmy summer evening or during a weekend visit. The use of portable re-usable BBQs is still permitted in some areas of Brighton and Hove's beautiful parks and beaches.
