Us Brits love a scented candle. Sales of scented candles have increased steadily in the UK over the past years, boosted in part also by our recent lockdown experiences as reported in November 2020 by the Guardian: UK sales of scented candles soar as Covid restrictions tighten. Globally, the increase in scented candle sales have followed a similar trend and are forecast to continue growing, reaching $4.8 billion in sales by 2027, according to market research published by Data Bridge.

The report attributes the increase in popularity to the "changing trend towards gifting scented candles on special occasions". By adding fragrance to the candle staple, a whole new experience is created which lends itself perfectly for gifting. Other than adding scents, a more recent trend has evolved which we claim will give candles a further boost in popularity: The wooden wick.

Traditionally, candles feature a wick of cotton. However, the more recent emergence of wood wicks is taking the whole experience of burning a fragrance candle to another level. They form a broader flame which helps heat the wax more evenly and release more fragrance, but perhaps the most important feature is that wooden wicks make a gentle popping and crackling sound akin to a fireplace - adding a third dimension to the experience and ambience.
